Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. Light filtering through water is always magical to me. Those transitory flickers on objects in the distance, or up close, are fleeting. They dare you to keep them. In between those flashes of light are flashes of life.
